Of bunnies and bonnets

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the East Meadow Senior Center on April 16 for their annual Easter party, where I was personally asked by Senior Center president Phyllis Caggiano to be the judge for their Easter bonnet decorating contest.

Eleven colorful, festive hats were created by the women of the senior center, and it was my job to choose the top three of the bunch, which was no easy task.

Furthermore, I was told by one resident that the women each spent several weeks working on their hats, which promptly added more pressure to my assignment.

But after careful deliberation, I ultimately awarded the top prize to Maria Scifo, with my rationale being, and I quote, “Out of pure amazement that the hat is able to remain situated on her head.”

I graciously thank Caggiano and the rest of the kind folks at the East Meadow Senior Center for inviting me to the festivities, it was a joyous occasion, and always a pleasure to catch up with my old friend, the Easter Bunny.
