Paul Tonna to lead NuHealth Foundation board

Deidra Parrish Williams, executive director of the NuHealth Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the NuHealth System, recently announced that Paul J. Tonna has been named chairman of the NuHealth Foundation’s board of directors, effective immediately. Tonna, who joined the board in 2010 was nominated to assume the chairmanship, succeeding former board chair, Marty Payson. 

Tonna will serve as chairman for two one-year terms, leading a dynamic board of volunteer business leaders whose support and expertise will assist the NuHealth Foundation in effectively and responsibly carrying out its mission, which is  to raise funding and awareness for the delivery of high quality health care for patients throughout the NuHealth system. 

Tonna serves as Molloy College’s Executive Director for The Energeia Partnership, and is the CEO of Professional Evaluation Medical Group, a health care company in Hicksville, New York. He served on the Suffolk County Legislature from 1994 to 2005, served as Presiding Officer from 2000 to 2002. Tonna is an unwavering advocate for social justice and lends his support to issues that include organized labor, immigration, and poverty. 

He has earned numerous awards and has been featured on various media, including: Lou Dobbs, CNN; The Oxygen Network; LI Telecare; The Rosie O’Donnell Show; News 12 Long Island; NBC News 4 and PBS WLIW 21. He serves as vice-chairman of The Long Island Regional Planning Board; Trustee of the Long Island State Parks & Recreation Commission and Public Trustee of the Stationary Engineer’s Industry Stabilization Fund. Tonna is a board member of: Health & Welfare Council of LI, Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center, The Long Island Index and Erase Racism’s College of Advisors.   Mr. Tonna serves as a founding director of Empire National Bank and a Commissioner of the South Huntington Water District. 

Paul Tonna resides in Huntington, with his wife Carol and children, Peter, Paul, John, Grace, Mary, Carolann, Joseph and Lucy.
