A Huntington man burglarized an East Meadow home last week, according to Nassau County Police Department officials.

Rony Compere, 43, was apprehended at the scene of the alleged crime on Francis Drive. Officials said he broke into a house on the block just before 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15.

According to detectives, an unnamed 43-year-old man called 911 when he noticed that the front window of the house was open and said he also heard someone inside. When officers from the 1st Precinct arrived, they said they saw Compere in front of the home.

Police said Compere tried to flee from the scene, running through the backyards of multiple homes. He was placed into custody in the back of a house on Brisbane Lane, detectives noted.

Compere was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal trespassing at his arraignment on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead. Shams Tarek, a spokesman for Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, said he pleaded not guilty.

Compere returned to court on Wednesday. He is being represented by an attorney from the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases as a matter of policy.
