A couple from East Meadow has been arrested on multiple charges of drug possession and endangering the welfare of two children, police said.

Francis Dima, 45, and Andrea Dima, 38, were operating a Dodge Ram that had sufficient front-end damage and a flashlight fastened to the vehicle in place of a headlight. They were headed eastbound on Corporate Drive on May 1 at 11:45 when police stopped them and found, in the couple’s possession, a broken glass tube with a white substance believed to be crack cocaine and a small knife. In the back seat was a five-year old and six-year old child — both of whom were not buckled into seatbelts.

Following the arrest, police located a family member who took in the two children. Officers found the couple also in possession with crack cocaine, heroin, multiple hypodermic needles and 89 green, roundish pills inscribed “U23,” which police believed to be oxycodone hydrochloride.

The couple faces similar charges of possession of drugs, hypodermic needles and a weapon among endangering the welfare of children. Francis also faces several Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. They were arraigned on May 2 in the Town of Hempstead First District Court.
