Rain doesn’t dampen Jets' pride

While heavy rain altered East Meadow High School’s Homecoming plans last Saturday, it did not dampen the spirit of East Meadow students, who celebrated festively inside the school gymnasium.

The Homecoming parade, set to march from Veterans Memorials Park on Prospect Avenue to the high school, was canceled, and the halftime presentation of the school floats, and Homecoming King and Queen, was also moved inside.

But hundreds still lined the gymnasium at halftime of the school’s football game against Syosset High School, and cheered on as the kickline and cheerleading squads, and the Rockettes, entertained the enthusiastic crowd.

Students chose a Pixar movie theme for their class floats. The seniors designed a Toy Story float; the juniors’ float mimicked Monsters, Inc.; sophomores chose Finding Nemo; and freshmen recreated the house from Up.

Homecoming King Max Hechtman, and Queen, Ashley Halkitis, were given their respective crowns, and then students and faculty returned to the football field, where the Jets braved the elements en route to a decisive 44-0 victory.
