Safety first at McVey

Posted

Integrating the language arts, creative arts, technology, and what they had learned in class during their unit on safety, Donna Berardi’s second-graders from McVey Elementary School authored and illustrated a book for their school library and created a slide presentation to share with their schoolmates. The message these students hope to deliver to the school community through both projects is “Be Safe!”

After brainstorming as a class about safe practices in the home, school, and community, each student chose a safety rule to write about and illustrate. Once their original drawings were scanned, the students inserted their “digitized drawings” into PowerPoint slides and wrote about the rules they had chosen.

The end result of their collaborative efforts was a slideshow and an accompanying bound big book called “Safety First.” Both were created to remind McVey students, faculty, and staff of the important safety rules we all should follow.
