Salisbury community lights up the night

It wouldn’t be the holiday season in Salisbury without its annual tree lighting, which takes place every year at the intersection of Carman Avenue and Lake Lane.

The evening was brought together by the Community Association of Stewart Avenue and the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce. For 37 years, Salisbury residents have gathered to see and feel what the holidays are all about.

On Dec. 8, the East Meadow Fire Department arrived with Santa Claus on a fire truck — a welcomed treat for many excited kids. The W.T. Clarke High School jazz choir performed a beautiful mix of holiday songs, and thanks to the help of East Meadow Kiwanis service leadership groups and local Girl and Boy Scout troops, the tree was decorated with handmade ornaments.

“At this very busy time, we should slow down and enjoy the simple things,” the community association and chamber wrote on Facebook. “Perhaps a holiday lighting is just what we all need.”

The groups also said that for many years, local merchants in Salisbury and East Meadow have long support the efforts that make the tree lighting and holiday event possible.

“Let’s remember they’re our neighbors too and should be able to count on you as well,” the post said. “Please visit their businesses regularlu. Have a happy and safe holiday season.”
