Young Scholar

Bobby Hoffman, an incoming sixth grader at Woodland Middle School, participated in the National Young Scholars Program (NYSP). The NYSP is designed and created specifically for the nation’s most highly acclaimed second, third, fourth and fifth grade students. Carrie Cohen, his Quest teacher at Barnum Woods, nominated Bobby for the program.

Summer tunes


For 49 years, the East Meadow School District has hosted a Summer Music Program. This year, 363 students representing 25 different school districts participated in the program, held at East Meadow High School. Students had opportunities to rehearse in concert bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, show chorus and chamber ensembles.

Three Clarke High School students received Summer Music scholarships from the Nassau Music Educators Association. Eric Ratner (N.Y. Summer School Music Festival) and Emily and Nicholas Mervosh (NYS Summer School of the Arts).

Nationally recognized


At Clarke High School, Justin Shanahan and Kaitlyn Nowak have been recognized as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

On board

The East Meadow Board of Education has scheduled work meetings on Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, both to begin at 7 p.m. All work meetings are open to the public, except for executive sessions, and are held at the Leon J. Campo Salisbury Center on 718 The Plain Road, Salisbury.
