East Meadow residents awoke to a blanket of snow covering their neighborhood on Jan. 21. The flurries fell throughout the night and into midday Saturday afternoon.

Some families took to the slopes and headed for hills at local parks and schools. Kids grabbed their sleds and snowboards and took turns skidding down the icy surfaces. Woodland middle school students, parkway elementary students and children as young as three years old were enjoying winter games near the entrance to Parkway Elementary School.

Anywhere from two to four inches of snow, followed by ice, landed in the hamlet making for slow travel around Long Island. Residents were seen around town scraping ice from their car windows and shoveling their driveways for the first time in 2012.
