Stop the madness

Posted

Ugh! There goes Scott Brinton again (“Ugh, the U.S. goes nuclear again,” Feb. 25-March 3).

I don’t understand what you people want. You oppose burning coal: too dirty.

Windmills: not in my backyard; they’ll spoil my view.

Nuclear energy: no, too unstable. Gasification in the Long Island Sound: no, too dangerous.

Drilling for oil offshore: no, can’t take a chance, yet Cuba is drilling 90 miles from Florida.

Would you like us to read by candlelight?

We have most of these energy sources right here, yet we spent $1 trillion dollars in 2008 to import oil to this country. Does this make sense?

All the hazards listed above can be disputed or, better yet, controlled safely. Brinton leads you to believe that nuclear energy would provide only a fraction of our energy needs when, in reality, wind and solar would do just that also — unless done on a humongous scale that would be cost-prohibitive.

Do we need renewable energy resources such as wind and solar? Absolutely. But in the meantime, let’s use our natural resources and stop the insanity of importing oil, which will bankrupt this country. And let’s stop all the hysteria that Brinton tries to spread among the rest of us.
