Several students were selected to read their letters aloud. The event took place on Friday, Sept. 16 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

“The next time you see a fireman or policeman, go up to him and say thank you,” said Councilman Gary Hudes who attended the assembly.

Also in attendance was William Bedoya, an emergency medical technician from the New York City Fire Department and parent to two Bowling Green students.

“The only thing that is better than helping someone in need is being thanked for what you do,” he said. Bedoya accepted the letters on behalf of his colleagues.
