Northwell Health Ice Center and Jovia announce partnership

Northwell Health Ice Center, in Eisenhower Park, has partnered with Jovia Financial Credit Union, one of the leading credit unions on Long Island. Jovia will be the rink’s “official credit union partner.”

Chris Lombardo, the rink’s vice president of partnerships, said that the facility was excited about this multi-year partnership. “They have such deep roots in the community,” Lombardo said, “and having Jovia representatives available to speak to these young kids and their parents about financial literacy at such a young age is so important.”

Jovia will be the presenting sponsor of the In-House Youth Hockey Programs at the Ice Center, which includes youth house leagues, youth summer camps and youth clinics. Each program is geared toward kids ages 5 to 13.

“It means a lot to us to have a sponsor like Jovia,” Lombardo said. “They support our youth on Long Island, and these kids are our future, and sports play such a huge part in developing these kids.” He said that sports build character, and teach strategic thinking and leadership skills, teamwork and goal setting.

A Jovia  ATM will be installed in the main lobby, and at select times, Jovia representatives will be present to interact with families, provide information about the credit union’s services and promote financial literacy.

Renu Dalessandro, the credit union’s chief marketing officer, said that Jovia is all about investing in local communities. “It’s these types of local partnerships that really give us a way to give back to the community,” she said. “When this program came to be, we knew that this would be a perfect fit.”

She said that it’s important to provide the youth of Long Island with as many opportunities to get involved in their communities, especially now post Covid. “This partnership stood out because we’re committed to providing opportunities like this for the youth,” she said. “It’s important to help them better themselves and focus on their wellness and self-confidence.”

Michael Wiener, a parent from Oceanside whose son Logan, 9, plays hockey at the Center, said that he has seen Jovia representatives there and had some informative conversations with them. “They were very knowledgeable and very friendly,” Wiener said. “It seems like a natural partnership because nowadays a lot of hockey players have sponsorships from banks and since this is the official place of the Islanders it just makes sense.”

As much as the Center is benefitting, Jovia benefits too when people sign up for their services.

The cleanliness and the great coaches are what drew Wiener to sign up his son to play hockey at Northwell Health Ice Center. Logan learned how to skate at the Center, took one-on-one hockey lessons, participated in the house league and is now in the peewee hockey team.

Northwell Health Ice Center is not only a place to ice skate but it is the official practice facility of the New York Islanders. It is also home to many youth travel hockey programs such as the Police Athletic League Junior Islanders, Girl’s Elite Hockey Program, and Long Island Mavericks as well as public and private local high school varsity hockey teams, Farmingdale State Men’s Hockey, Long Island University, Men & Women’s Hockey program and many adult hockey leagues.

The Center is approximately 175,000 square feet in size and offers hockey development classes, hockey skills and skating clinics, ice skating classes, freestyle figure skating sessions and public skating sessions.

The state-of-the-art facility also offers a gym/training center, hockey and figure skating equipment, skate sharpening, sports therapy and rehabilitation services, Allstar Children’s Center, and the New York Islanders pro shop.
