Thanks for addressing issues on Newbridge Road

Posted

As an East Meadow resident, I congratulate the citizens and officials actively involved in addressing the current hazardous Newbridge Road configuration.

It has been my observation that the existing road design has been a dangerous one. There are a couple of dangerous curves along this route, and with two lanes in each direction, often-impatient drivers attempt to pass each other. Traveling down this road can be hair-raising.

With the correction of numerous flaws in the road design, many accidents will be averted and lives will be saved. Senior citizens and the young should have an easier time crossing. Newbridge Road is a state route, but it’s also a neighborhood road. Many homes surround the perimeter of this well-traveled path.

A big thank-you to Legislator Norma Gonzalves, Sen. Kemp Hannon, state Department of Transportation officials who responded and those who promote traffic safety along Newbridge Road. That would include my late father, Edmund G. Trunk, who was president of the Newbridge Road Committee about 25 years ago.

Thanks go to the Herald, as well, for addressing Newbridge Road safety concerns.
