The East Meadow Jewish Center held its 29th annual menorah lighting ceremony on Dec. 21 to commemorate the beginning of Hanukkah.

Rabbi Androphy began the tradition when he joined the center. “It’s desirable to light the menorah where it can be seen,” he said. While homeowners often place the menorah in a front window, the center placed their menorah on the front lawn, which faces Prospect Avenue.

Many students from the Hebrew school were in attendance and celebrated the evening with songs. Parents, teachers and congregation members were also present to observe the holy holiday.
