Three E.M. women given distinct honor

Fourteen residents were named Women of Distinction in the state’s 15th Assembly District, which includes East Meadow and Salisbury, and is represented by Assemblyman Rob Walker (R-Hicksville).

Three of the honorees were from East Meadow. Their achievements were celebrated at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library on Oct. 9.

“The women we honor represent some of the most courageous and accomplished individuals in the state and nation,” Walker said. “Together, their achievements and hard work have resulted in all of us enjoying better lives and a much better community.”

In addition to Walker, one of the presenters was Kavita Gera, a Girl Scout Cadette from East Meadow and a seventh grader at Woodland Middle School. The other youth presenter was Catherine Hartel, a Girl Scout Cadette from Hicksville.

Rose Fuger

Rose Fuger is a resident of East Meadow and the owner of A Taste of Home Bakery in North Bellmore. A successful businesswoman and member of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, Fuger still finds time to be actively involved with her children.

She has been a member of the PTA for 15 years, and is a Cub Master and Community chair for her local Boy Scouts Troop.

Fuger serves as one of the Tri-Presidents of the Woodland “Parents of Woodland Athletics” program, which has recognized and honored Woodland Middle School student-athletes for 20 years.

Among Rose’s many achievements working with POWA are: the purchase and installation of a new scoreboard, the purchase of a new ice machine, and installation of a landscaping project in front of the school. And given all of her work for the children of the community, Fuger still finds time to serve as a member of the East Meadow Kiwanis Club.

Never looking for accolades or honors, Fuger sees a problem for a family in need and jumps in to lend a hand or raise funds for an important cause.
