Volunteer raising money for Lupus research, awareness

Posted

Andrew Alderman, an East Meadow High School alumnis and the Herald’s 2004 Person of the Year, is participating in and raising money for the 16th annual “Walk Along for Lupus” on Oct. 18 at Eisenhower Park. Alderman, who is 19, is in his ninth year raising money to help find a cure for lupus. Last year, Alderman was able to raise $3,175 for the cause. However, he did fall short of his $4,000 goal, and wants to top that this year.

Lupus is a chronic, incurable disease where a person’s immune system loses the ability to differentiate between foreign bodies, causing the body to attack itself. There is a need for a new treatment.

Any amount would be appreciated and is tax-deductible (checks can be made out to “Lupus Alliance” and mailed to: Andrew Alderman, 1523 Rose Lane, East Meadow, N.Y. 11554 You can also visit Alderman’s personal walk web page, where you can contribute quickly, safely, and easily with the click of a mouse.
