The Westbury Fire Department held a service on Sept. 12 to dedicate a new 9/11 Memorial at the department’s Station 2 firehouse on Old Country Road, the same location where the department recently installed a commemorative plaque.

The memorial honors the thousands who died on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as Ex-Chief Richard Dellacona and Firefighter Robert Langer, and the others who have passed from 9/11-related illnesses. Chief John Bartunek presided over the dedication.

“It is imperative that we commemorate 9-11 by reflecting and honoring those we lost that tragic morning, and the bravery and heroism shown by first responders,” Bartunek said. “We dedicate this lasting memorial so that others will know the meaning of which we, as Americans, so strongly place on our freedom.”
