Woodland Middle School mixes it up

Posted

Woodland Middle School held its third annual “Mix It Up Day” on April 1, encouraging students to reach out to others with whom they would not normally socialize with on a daily basis.  This was the culminating activity for the week, which was themed “Let Your Colors Burst.”

“Mixing it up” means that the students had to sit in different seats at lunch, with the hope that social barriers would be broken down and new communication would develop among those who do not normally interact with one another. Students participated in word scrambles, raffles (with prizes from community businesses), and a “guess how many M&M’s are in a jar” contest.

In addition, students from East Meadow High School’s Athletes Helping Athletes, as well as Woodland’s National Junior Honor Society executive board and Peer Helpers were on hand as facilitators for the day. It was a fun opportunity to remind the school community to keep the spirit of goodwill towards others.
