Bishop denies meeting to Sacred Heart parents

The St. Catherine of Sienna School in Franklin Square and Sacred Heart Elementary School in North Merrick are among four Catholic schools in Nassau County that will close next June due to dwindling enrollment and funding. Bishop William Murphy of the Diocese of Rockville Centre announced the news on Dec. 5, in a public letter that is posted on the diocese’s website. more

Parents of students who attend certain private schools outside of Lynbrook and East Rockaway are upset about the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s plans to cut two of their bus routes — the N65 and N66 — which would force some of their children to be rerouted through the Hempstead bus terminal to get to school. more
