Q. My neighbors are getting a “repair permit” but I don’t really care about doing that. I doubt there will ever be a problem if I’m only putting back sheetrock and insulation.

Q. We had an addition built over 10 years ago but we didn’t get a permit. Many laws have changed and we have to do a lot of rigamarole, and maybe even tear part of the addition apart to correct things. We shouldn’t be made to do all these changes, should we?

Q. In 2005 we had central air-conditioning installed, separate from our forced-air heating unit. Everything was done according to code, and when I inquired about any permit, they said it's up to me, but in 2005 I had no thoughts of ever moving. Now I'm contemplating selling the home and moving. Will 'no permit' prevent me from getting a buyer, or keep the buyer from obtaining a mortgage?
