Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray unveiled a set of “solar trackers” at the town’s Department of Conservation and Waterways in Lido Beach during a news conference on Monday. The trackers adjust to face the sun throughout the day to maximize solar input and energy output.

Making A SPLASH in Bay Park waters

Extreme amounts of shoreline trash have been reported by residents of East Rockaway and Bay Park. Coffee cups, water bottles, and assorted litter can also be seen all over Long Island’s south shore waterways. Many people think that litter in the Bay Park area is a result of careless boaters but that is not the case: street litter from as far north as Garden City washes into storm drains that empty, unfiltered, directly into south shore waterways. more
