This is in response to a letter written to the editor that thanked Senator Martins in the July 11-17 edition of the Herald. I do not understand how anyone can thank a senator for hurting the taxpayers of the Elmont Public Library. This has to do with Senator Martins’s refusal to sign papers to release a $100,000 grant to the library. more
I applaud Senator Martin’s decision to redirect funds away from the Elmont Public Library to an entity who will benefit greatly by the gift and who would not have the funds available without Senator Martin’s act of common sense. more

Residents in communities surrounding JFK Airport know all too well the problem of jet noise. Over the decades, they have witnessed an increasing number of flights in and out of JFK. To accommodate the increase, the curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. was eliminated in the 1990s. Plane noise now occurs virtually at all hours. more

I recently sponsored an outreach program in conjunction with the state Department of Financial Services for homeowners in the 6th Senate District who have concerns about their mortgages. The turnout, according to DFS, was the highest they had seen for any of their mobile outreach services. more
