Posted

MTA Long Island Rail Road customers traveling westbound on the Far Rockaway or Hempstead Branches this weekend are advised that train schedules will be adjusted beginning at 12:07 AM on Saturday, April 6 and ending at 12:42 AM on Monday, April 8 to allow the LIRR to renew the railroad crossing at West Broadway in Hewlett.

Far Rockaway customers will board trains leaving approximately 30 minutes earlier than their normal departure times and arrive at their destination approximately 30 minutes earlier than usual. Customers on the Hempstead Branch will board their trains approximately 30 minutes later than usual and arrive at their destinations approximately 30 minutes later.

The crossing renewal work includes replacing the rubber crossing pads with longer lasting and smoother concrete crossing materials as wellas rebuilding the track bed and replacing the wood track ties with longer-lasting concrete track ties in the crossing area. The work will be completed well in advance of Monday’s AM Peak and train service will be normal for the morning rush.

Special April 6-8 Far Rockaway Branch and Hempstead Branch timetables titled, “Westbound Crossing Renewal Trackwork Schedule,” detailing the revised train arrivals and departures are available at branch stations and on the MTA website at http://mta.info/lirr/Timetable/
