With a 14-hit barrage led by Mitch Shemtov, 3-for-3 4 RBI, and Nick Tumminello who went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, the Giants of the Hewlett-Woodmere Little League won the Intermediate Division championship 12-7 over the Diamondbacks at Grant Park in Hewlett on Father’s Day.

Pitchers Louis Pilao, Aide Arad and Tumminello combined to strike out nine through six innings. Backstop Eytan Libkind caught all three hurlers.

The Diamondbacks grabbed an early 3-0 lead, but then the Giants powered past them with nine runs in the next two innings. Defensive most valuable player second baseman Jonathan Boxer made the game’s final put out.

Previously in the playoffs, the Giants rallied to beat the Marlins with a 10-run final inning come back. “No matter what the circumstances this team of fourth- and fifth-graders refused to quit,” said coach Alan Krull. “All twelve of my players came ready to play each and every game. I could not be more proud of them.”
