Using art to make a social statement
Stan Lebovic exhibits and speaks at Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst
Donovan Berthoud/Herald
Artist and author Stan Lebovic visited Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst to exhibit and discuss his provocative artwork “Black is a Color.”

The provocative art of Stan Lebovic came to Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst as the artist and author displayed and discussed his work “Black is Color” at the shul on Spruce Street on Jan. 12.

Lebovic, who grew up with a father who was a Holocaust survivor, speaks about it using an atypical optimistic perspective. He uses insight, artistry and scholarship as a way to leave his audiences with a lasting impression.

His art is considered a uniquely powerful message that offers something of a cathartic experience that could lead to a stronger sense of Jewish pride and collective self-esteem.
