A winter weather advisory was issued for Nassau County by the National Weather Service. Temperatures in the Five Towns are expected to range from 39º to 28 º today. The storm is forecast to taper off in Nassau between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Village of Lawrence officials said, plowing is going well and Highway Department employees were in early in anticipation of the morning commute. There have been no reported accidents and anticipated warmer temperatures in the afternoon should help melt the snow.

"We were out early this morning and cleared the roads on first pass," said Village of Cedarhurst Mayor Benjamin Weinstock. "We salted the roads and are hoping as peole go to work that we could clean curb-to-curb. Hopefully the warm weather later will do the rest, but we won't leave it to chance." Up to eight trucks are plowing village streets, Weinstock said.

A forecast of 5 to 10 inches of snow has closed the Hewlett-Woodmere and Lawrence school districts, Lawrence Woodmere Academy, The Brandeis School in Lawrence, The Hebrew Academy for Special Children in Woodmere and the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway.

Also closed are Davis Renov Stahler High Schools for Boys in Woodmere and Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls in Hewlett Bay Park and the Marion and Aaron Gural JCC and its kosher food pantry in Woodmere and Early Childhood Center at Temple Israel in Lawrence. The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library will not open until 1 p.m. Sanitary District 1 will be open today, said Superintendent George Pappas.
