Temple Am Echad

A walk to remember

Congregants walk the Torahs to new Temple Am Echad in Lynbrook

Posted

Nearly two dozen congregates of the newly-formed Temple Am Echad made a 4.2-mile trek from Temple Sinai in Lawrence to Temple Emanu-El of Lynbrook, ushering in a new era for hundreds of local Reform Jewish families. The group of former Temple Sinai members walked with five Torahs in hand, saying prayers and singing Jewish songs. Hundreds of former Emanu-El members, some of whom had Torahs in hand, were waiting outside the Lynbrook synagogue to greet their new congregates at the end of the pilgrimage. This Torah transfer marked the new beginning of Temple Am Echad which means “one people” in Hebrew.
