Amerigo Cafasso Jr., 82

Lifetime Cedarhurst resident Amerigo Cafasso Jr. died at home on Jan. 5. He was 82. 

Known as “Junior” or “Junie” Cafasso, the son of the late Amerigo Sr. and Philomena Cafassao, graduated from Lawrence High School and went to work in the family business, Cafasso Lathing and Plastering Co., Inc. in Inwood as a master plasterer. The company was a major contractor in the New York area.

Cafasso was a self-taught artisan who created many unique and decorative ornamental plastering details in homes, museums, entertainment venues and houses of worship in the Five Towns and throughout the metropolitan area. 

He is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Guida); children Phyllis (James) Brennan of North Bellmore; Ricky of Rockville Centre; Carmine of Freeport and Renee (Anthony) Campanile of East Rockaway. Grandchildren Christina, Jacquelyn, Stephanie and Jessica Cafasso and Samantha; and Chelsea and Rachel Campanile. Brother Arthur (Artie) and sister, Sylvia (David) Hammar, of Woodmere. He was predeceased by brothers Chester and Patsy (Margaret) of Hewlett and sister Marie (Gerald) Killane of Woodmere.

A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joachim R.C. Church in Cedarhurst on Jan. 9. Burial was at Trinity Cemetery in Hewlett. 

The family requests that donations be made to St. Joachim Church in Cafasso’s memory.
