As the school year winds down, more and more seniors are committing to college. The excitement and camaraderie is evident, as Hewlett High School seniors come to school dressed in apparel from their chosen institution.
They proudly show off their new university bumper stickers on their vehicles and are sporting collegiate-themed clothing and accessories from their shoes to their iPhone cases (literally)! The pride they feel is what they have been waiting for since freshman year, and now it’s finally their time to flaunt it.
Even for the students who haven’t yet declared which school they’ll be attending in the fall (me included); the acceptances are slowly rolling in. Personally, I find it thrilling and exciting to go home to find a letter from a college in the mail with my admission decision inside. The adrenaline rush I get when I open an envelope or get into one of my top schools has truly been incomparable with anything else I’ve experienced.
“I feel like all the seniors, at this point, are tired of waiting,” senior Val Elefante said. “It has been a great four years in Hewlett but I think we are all ready to begin the next phase of our lives.”
Other students have already committed to college, nearly five weeks before the national deposit deadline of May 1.
