After the Inwood parade, military veterans were recognized for their service at a memorial service at the VFW Post 1582’s headquarters. Post Commander Ron Sorentino, left, and past Post Commander Luke Magliaro, both served in the Navy, were among those honored.

World War II veteran John Santora served as this year’s grand marshal for the Inwood Memorial Parade that marched from the Long Island Rail Road station down Doughty Boulevard to the PFC. John Oliveri Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1582, where there was a memorial service.
The holiday parade included the Inwood and Meadowmere fire departments, Our Lady of Good Counsel band, the Lawrence High School marching band, the Inwood Buccaneers, Sons of Italy and Boys and Girl scouts.
