Baking up a challah in Atlantic Beach

Women of all ages join together to learn a Jewish tradition

Grandmothers, mothers, daughters, aunts and cousins joined together for the second annual Great Challah Bake at Sands Atlantic Beach in Atlantic Beach on Oct. 21.
The event brought together a diverse group of about 700 local Jewish women, including business owners, mothers, daughters of Holocaust survivors, women who had little or no knowledge of Jewish tradition and those who bake their own challah.
This year’s theme was “kneading it together” to tie this ancient practice with contemporary times. The challah bake was prior to the larger Shabbos Project, Oct. 23 and 24, where people came together to celebrate Shabbos in 500 cities throughout the world.
Author, teacher and Rabbi Lawrence Hajioff and Rebbetzin Debbie Greenblatt emceed the event. All who attended received a copy of Hajioff’s book, “Jews Got Questions?”
