Bookworms aids Hindi’s Libraries

Posted

Hindi’s Libraries helped establish a new group of young volunteers, the Bunch o’ Bookworms, made up of high school students. The students contacted Hindi’s Libraries co-founder Leslie Gang and joined the book collection and donation organization for a book labeling and sorting session at the Levi Yitzchak Library in Cedarhurst on Nov. 15.

The student volunteers will be meeting weekly as they aim to assist Hindi’s Libraries efforts by labeling both new and gently used books after reviewing the quality and content of each book received. Hindi’s Libraries has donated 65,000 books to 380 groups, institutions and even medical practices in the 50 states, Israel and Puerto Rico, according to Gang.

It was founded in memory of Dr. Hindi Krinsky, an English teacher and curriculum coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway High School, who died in August of 2018 at age 32. Her husband, Dovid Kanarfogel, the other co-founder.
