Boosting the IDF’s morale

Supporters of the Friends of the Israel Defense Force Long Island chapter from the Five Towns and Greater South Shore held their second annual gala at the Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst on May 22.

Attended by 400 community leaders and residents, the event raised $300,000 that will benefit the Givati Brigade of the IDF that the Long Island chapter adopted through the FIDF Adopt-A-Brigade program, which provides funds for a variety of recreational events that seek to boost the soldiers’ morale.

The dinner was a tribute to more than 50 ‘lone soldiers’ who have served or are currently serving in the IDF and a group of veterans who volunteered to fight in Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. Lone soldiers are those with no immediate family in Israel. Lawrence resident Ben Brafman was the event’s master of ceremonies.
