Atlantic Beach resident Raina Russo and Luann Myers, of Belle Harbor, will be presented with Woman of Valor awards from The Brandeis School in Lawrence during its annual dinner dance, which will be held at the Oceanside Jewish Center on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Russo, a graduate of the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel, is a strong advocate for Brandeis and has served on the executive board for several years, initiated many school functions and fundraisers and is always involved.
Recently she helped lead the Bnei-Mitzvah project that raised more than $5,000 for Aleh, Israel’s largest network of residential facilities for children with severe physical and cognitive disabilities.
In addition, Russo, like her grandmother, became an active member of Hadassah. She served at the Atlantic Beach chapter and brought some of the group’s activities to Brandeis, including a school-wide competition that raised more than $3,000 for the Jewish National Fund after the Mt. Carmel fires in Israel.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Myers’ parents set the example for her community involvement. She attended school, taught and was an assistant principal in District 21.

After working for several years, Myers went to work raising her children. Since becoming involved with Brandeis, she has served on its Board of Education for five years and has been the co-president for the past two years.
She has served on the Dinner-Dance Committee for five years, has previously organized the Back to School event, photographed and posted photos of many school events and volunteered to help with a multitude of different Brandeis function. Myers is
always quick to ask, “What do you need?” and then says “Let’s get it done.”
