A car fire at 4:10 p.m. by the Tobacco Road convenience store at 315 Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence caused a 30-minutre traffic delay on the south bound side of the roadway on May 10, officials on the scene said.

“The owner of the 1994 Lincoln Town Car had just parked and went inside the store for some items,” said Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department Chief Joseph Sperber. “Upon his return the car was fully engulfed in flames.”

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the store’s structure suffered minor damage, Sperber said. There were no injuries.
