A 35-year old Cedarhurst mother thought her sport utility vehicle was in reverse when she went to pull out of her driveway on Sunday at 4:55 p.m., according to police.

But, the vehicle was in drive and when she stepped on the accelerator she struck her two sons who were playing in the driveway at the time, police said.

The 10-year old was transported via Nassau County helicopter and the 2-year-old was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Both children were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police impounded the vehicle for a brake test. No charges have been filed at this time.
