Celebrating the Peninsula Public Library ‘readologists’

Calling them “readologists” Peninsula Public Library’s children’s librarian Carolynn Matulewicz presented more than 100 kids with their certificates for completing the summer reading programs.
More than 400 children ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade registered and 116 read a total of 167,650 pages and 1,662 books. Their achievements were celebrated with a party in the library’s parking lot on Aug. 14. The celebration included a variety of games, face painting, snacks and Italian ices.
Mohammed Faiz, a pre-K student, was the top reader in the pre-K-first grade group with 2,351 pages. Fourth-grader Asmita Kumari Jaisual read 7,138 pages, the most on the second to fourth grade level and Lawrence Middle School seventh-grader Kalib DeNicolo read 9,357 pages and sixth-grader Bhawn Sandhu was the grand prize winner with 9,752 pages read.
