About 30 volunteers, including nearly 20 Hewlett and Lawrence High School students took part in the second annual Earth Day cleanup at Hempstead Lake State Park on April 27, sponsored by the Town of Hempstead Democratic Committee's Environmental Caucus.

Led by Caucus Chair and Woodmere resident Michael Turi (Lawrence High class of 1995) and Park Manager William Brown, the group, which also included Lawrence teachers Adam Forman and Steve Sullivan, and Melissa Pantelis from Hewlett High, collected approximately 1,000 pounds or 75 bags of trash, according to Brown.
