Color war builds school spirit at DRS

Students built camaraderie and leadership skills while having a good time at the Davis Renov Stahler (DRS) Yeshiva High School’s annual color war competition. The two-day event, held on Dec. 5-6, built school spirit, and pitted the red team, which represented teva (nature), against the yellow team, which represented neis (miracles).

Through various events, students developed leadership skills and worked together in unity to win the competition. “Color war builds a sense of camaraderie and school spirit among the students as they work hard to put on presentations before their peers and teachers,” said Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky, principal of DRS in Woodmere.

Senior Yonatan Kerstein broke out the color war, as team captains and generals were announced. During the event, students worked together, exhibiting their skills and talents in everything from football to cooking.

“It’s great to see the school split up into two teams and work together to build school spirit, while at the same time competing against each other and having a great time,” said Red Team captain Ruvie Sturm.

Chess games and the trivia tournament attracted academically-inclined students, while athletic students enjoyed the football, volleyball and basketball games. Students bonded with each other and displayed school spirit, as they decorated the school in red and yellow, and sported team colors.

The whole school came together for closing ceremonies on Friday, as the team comedy and reverse videos were shown. Students also participated in team cheers and songs, as well as the poetry slam and the “stomp.” At the end of color war, the red team was declared victorious, but everyone agreed that color war was a wonderful experience for the entire student body.

“Color war is a great way to take a break from school, while kids build school spirit and work together as a team,” said sophomore Gabriel Miller.
