On July 13, 14 and 15 bargain shoppers will flock to Cedarhurst’s 23rd annual Sidewalk Sale for entertainment, free food and of course great deals at their favorite stores.

Cedarhurst Business Improvement District Executive Director Teri Schure said the Sidewalk Sale is one of the area’s most anticipated events. “It’s one of Long Island’s most popular sales events of the year,” she said. “In its twenty-third year, the event always attracts thousands of people who come for upscale merchandise, including couture, at bargain prices.”

Owners of La Toys Etcetera on Columbia Avenue in Cedarhurst for 35 years, Jerry and Nancy Bloomberg, said they enjoy participating in the Sidewalk Sale and call it ‘three days of bliss.’

“At the heart of the sale, it’s all about strolling along the avenue and catching a great bargain,” Jerry said. “Weather permitting, we really get to clear our store of merchandise that just isn’t fit for our shelves anymore. For us at La Toys, it’s always about making new space for new product and what better way to do that then sell it off at a bargain price?”

Jerry added that many of his most loyal customers he met initially at a Sidewalk Sale. He also said customers can expect great bargains and personal service at his store the day of the sale. “Shoppers can expect a very friendly and safe atmosphere,” he said. “It’s all about the bargain that catches your eye under the summer sun!”

Village of Cedarhurst Trustee Ari Brown is the board’s representative for the Business Improvement District (BID) and said South Shore Long Island residents flock to the three-day event. “Last year you couldn’t walk down the street, you had to walk on the curb,” Brown said of the large crowds. “People get a good deal and the whole community benefits from it.”

The BID is currently working with local merchants in a cooperative effort to distribute free drinks, snacks and frozen yogurt to sale goers. More than 100 business owners are participating in the sale and raffle forms for a $1,000 Cedarhurst shopping spree will be available at participating stores.
