Dedicated to village service

When longtime Lawrence resident Edward Gottlieb got up to receive the Crowell Baker Award from the Lawrence Association he was honored to accept the recognition from the organization he’s been involved with for the past 28 years.

“It’s a great recognition but I was also surprised to receive it,” Gottlieb said. “It felt great to be associated with the people who received the award before.”

In honor of Crowell Baker, a former Village of Lawrence trustee and past president of the Lawrence Association who died in 1999, the organization annually recognizes an individual from the community for their extraordinary volunteer contributions.

Gottlieb, a 30-year Lawrence resident, is an associate broker at Schuckman Realty Inc. in Woodbury. He is a past president and vice president of the Lawrence Association and currently sits on Lawrence’s Board of Zoning and Appeals. “This is where my community involvement started; it’s where I found my roots,” he said of the Lawrence Association. “This community thrives because of this organization and I can only hope I’ve given to the village as much as I’ve received.”

Lawrence Association President Ron Goldman said Gottlieb’s selection as this year’s award winner was based on his dedication to the community and exemplifying the values Baker displayed.

“He was chosen to receive the Crowell Baker Award because he personifies devotion to the village and to public service,” said Lawrence Association President Ron Goldman. “Ed in his capacity as past president and his devotion to the village, embodies those principles.”

Susan Davis, who is on the board of governors at the Lawrence Association, has lived in Lawrence for 47 years. Davis met Gottlieb when he first joined the organization. “It was a pleasure to be a member when he was president,” she said. “He was the loveliest person to work with and I’m so happy he received the award. He is a pleasure and is dedicated to the well being of Lawrence.”
