On Tuesday, May 5 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Marion & Aaron Gural JCC will hold another community-wide food drive for its Rina Shkolnik Kosher Food Pantry at the Sustenance Hope and Opportunities Place in Cedarhurst. The collection is sponsored by the Irving Place Minyan.

Donors can drop off their donations by the Willow Avenue entrance of Maple Plaza between Cedarhurst and Maple avenues. Needed items include breakfast cereals, canned beans, canned fruits, canned salmon and canned veggies; pasta and sauce, oatmeal, sardines, shelf-stable milk and soups and chili.

Gural JCC officials noted that since March 16 there has been nearly a 40 percent rise in client need for support from the kosher food pantry at the SHOP because of the coronavirus pandemic. Donations of food and money enable the JCC to meet the increased demands for its services that was not planned or budgeted for.

On April 30, the collection sponsored by the Inna Koppel and Woodmere Fitness had a steady stream of vehicles, according to Stacey Feldman, the JCC’s associate executive director, who along with the mother-daughter team of Tali and Danna Kutcher of Woodmere collected the donations. Danna, is a Hewlett High school senior headed to SUNY Binghamton in the fall. A singer, she plans on studying music and business.
