Drowning victim found off Jamaica Bay in Inwood

Police are investigating the man's death

Police are investigating a drowning of a 36-year-old man that occurred on July 2 at 6:45 a.m. in Inwood.

The man was recovered by Marine Bureau police officers from a section of Jamaica Bay off Inwood Tuesday morning.

A passerby saw the man's body in an inlet bordering Inwood Park and called 911. Police responded and the man was pronounced dead at the scene,officials said.

Police investigators will work with the medical examiner’s office to determine when the person died, how long the body was in the water and the circumstances of the individual’s death.

There appears to be no criminality at this time, police said. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
