The sounds of lively music and dancing filled the building at Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva for Boys High School’s 25th annual Parent-Son Melave Malka (meal).

Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky, the school’s principal, wrote in an email that the goal of the get together is to celebrate, “the joy, fulfillment and meaning that there is in being a Jew,” along with highlighting the “positive Jewish energy that [the Yeshiva] strives to inculcate in it’s Talmidim (students) with song divrei Torah, food and dancing.”

For one night the entire yeshiva family, rabbis, parents and students, come together to celebrate those aspects of positive Jewish spirit. It began with a musical gathering in the school’s gymnasium led by Kaminetsky and the DRS band. Parents and sons sang together as videos highlighting school events from the year were show.

Longtime DRS rebbe, Rabbi Aryeh Cohen was honored for his more than 20 years of service to the yeshiva. Cohen, school officials said, “shows unparalleled care for his talmidim and alumni,” and he spends many hours guiding them in various aspects of life.

He has inspired countless students in the joys of being Jewish and the Torah. There was a video tribute and Cohen was presented with an award for his dedication.

Two awards were given to students. The Torah Growth Award was presented to the student in each class who showed special aptitude in learning through the year.

The Midot Awards were given to a student in each grade who, based on a fellow classmate vote, was recognized as having the most refined middot (explaining biblical meanings) and character.
