Hewlett Happenings

Enjoying the fun between the frenzy

Posted

The current atmosphere in the halls of Hewlett High School is very different from that of just a few weeks ago. With Advanced Placement Exams completed, the weather being warmer, and students being somewhat more relaxed, the hallways are less tense places. Students are preparing and organizing for many upcoming events and activities. Although the school year is winding down, Hewlett students still have many things to look forward to.

Advanced Placement exams took place over a two-week span, beginning with the Chemistry exam on the morning of May 7 and ending with the Macroeconomics exam on the morning of May 17. It is a requirement that all students enrolled in an AP class take the corresponding AP exam. Many sophomores, juniors, and seniors experienced the pressure while studying for these demanding tests. It is no surprise that Hewlett students were overjoyed and relieved when their exams were finally done.

Even though many students’ workloads will be lighter now that AP exams are done, students’ schedules are still hectic. The spring concerts will take place this week and next week where music students will showcase a year’s worth of hard work and practice. Clubs are also organizing their final events for the year. Students involved with the school’s newspaper, Spectrum, are hard at work because two issues will be published next week, including a normal issue and a special senior issue.

This time of year is especially frenzied for seniors. Prom will take place on June 2 at the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club. It is an evening that seniors are especially looking forward to. It will be a great high school memory as they dance, eat, and spend time with their friends. In the school’s hallway, one might hear some talking about prom and their plans for the evening. The school recently hosted a prom meeting to alleviate students and parents’ concerns. Seniors are also finishing their senior projects and experiences. Seniors involved in the theater department performed their theater projects on May 22-23 after school to large audiences.
