Ensuring that the dough will rise

More than 300 children 5-13, with adult guidance, learned how to prepare the dough to bake challah bread during the 90-minute Chabad of the Five Towns Kids Challah Bake at The Brandeis School in Lawrence on Jan. 29.

Making challah, a loaf of white leavened bread, usually braided in form, is traditionally baked to celebrate the Jewish Sabbath, other holidays and as part of daily meals.

Parents and grandparents joined together to create the

traditional Jewish challah. "The feeling in the room was indescribable!," said Hadassah Geisensky, who oversaw the challah bake."The energy was palpable! The smiles and laughter on everyone's faces was proof that the event was a

success."
