Far Rockaway LIRR service to be suspended

Posted

Service on the Long Island Rail Road’s Far Rockaway branch is scheduled to be suspended in both directions on Saturday Aug. 28 as the LIRR performs concrete tie installation work, which is anticipated to impact other branches as well.

Travelers going west from Rockaway to Gibson will get on buses or van and transfer to train at Valley Stream. Buses will leave up to 30 minutes earlier than usual train times. Trains from Rosedale, Laurelton and Locust Manor will depart up to 20 minutes earlier than usual.

Heading east, passengers will board Long Beach-bound trains for service to Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale and Valley Stream. For service east of Valley Stream, board Far Rockaway Branch trains, exit at Valley Stream, and transfer for connecting bus service to stations Gibson through Far Rockaway. Plan for up to 30 minutes of additional travel time.

Along the Long Beach branch, westbound trains will depart up to 20 minutes earlier than usual. All eastbound and westbound Long Beach trains will stop at Valley Stream, Rosedale, Laurelton and Locust Manor.

Along the West Hempstead branch all eastbound and westbound trains will begin and end at the Jamaica station, and run express between Jamaica and the Westwood station (no stops at Valley Stream).

For the most up to date information, train officials say to use the LIRR TrainTime app. The work is dependent on the weather and the dates are subject to change.
