An early morning fire on April 2, at Tamburino’s Deli at 627 Central Ave. in Cedarhurst has closed the popular breakfast and lunch spot for the foreseeable future.

Police reported smoke and after the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department responded it was confirmed that there was a fire in the back of the deli with flames reaching the adjacent businesses, including the North Shore LIJ laboratory immediately next door.

Firefighters under the direction of Deputy Chief Michael Beilinson quickly contained the blaze and extinguished pockets of pockets.
No injuries were reported. Hewlett, Inwood and Woodmere fire departments also responded.

On a GoFundMe page set up to help the deli owners they wrote: “After almost 40 years of serving its loyal customers and being an active member of the Five Towns, Tamburino's Deli was unfortunately a victim of a fire forcing us to close our doors until further notice.

“Since 1978 Tamburino's has grown to become a landmark of Long Island, please help us stay a part of the community. Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated as we hope to come back even stronger. We thank you for all your prayers and support during this difficult time.”
