Fun was had in Cedarhurst Park, despite delayed opening

The 27th annual Five Towns Community Chest Fair began two hours later than scheduled – at 1 p.m. instead of 11 a.m. – due to the expected rain, but the rides started up, the food was served, the games were played and the booths were manned by representatives from several organizations, including Peninsula Counseling Center, the Five Towns Senior Center, Rock Hall Museum, the Five Towns Early Learning Center, Peninsula Hospital Center and the Town of Hempstead.

There were rides from the “Sizzler” for people who love rides that shake them to “The Jetsons” that lifted the little ones oh so high. The “Swinger” for those who wanted to go higher and the traditional merry-go-round, along with the Go-Gator roller coaster for children, a super slide and a few others.

Food was plentiful as La Viola had heroes and pasta, Goodfellas for zeppoles and funnel cakes, Pretzel Time and Edibles on the Go and Open Road Baking.

The fair continues on Sunday in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park with an 11 a.m. opening and Burger Bar serving kosher food.
