Arrests

INWOOD- Erick Pelaez, 27, of Lawrence and Sergio Acosta, 18, of Inwood were arrested for attempted murder for an incident that occurred at Carisma Restaurant, located at 199 Mott Ave. in Lawrence, on Feb. 23 at 4:18 a.m.

On June 25, Manuel Pelaez, 21, of Wilson Avenue in Riverhead, was arrested at his home for this alleged crime. He was charged with attempted murder-second degree, gang assault-first degree, possession of a dangerous weapon-fourth degree.

A 23-year-old male victim was walking home from the restaurant when the defendants and Manuel Pelaez, 21, of Riverhead approached him near his residence on Clinton Ave. in Inwood. They struck the victim repeatedly and dragged him behind his home before stabbing him multiple times. The defendants then fled the scene on Clinton Ave. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted with stab wounds to his throat, arms and legs.

On May 4, Erick Pelaez was taken into custody and arraigned the following day. Acosta was arrested at his residence on May 31 and was arraigned on June 1.

WOODMERE- Jeffrey Schutzman, 66, of Woodmere, was arrested at the intersection of West Broadway and Woodmere Boulevard for driving while intoxicated at 5:05 p.m. on June 14, police said.

LAWRENCE- Kelvin Ray, 52, of Staten Island, was arrested at the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Rock Hall Road for driving while intoxicated at 4:45 p.m. on June 16, according to police.

Criminal mischief

INWOOD- The tires and door locks of a vehicle were damaged at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Russell Place between 10:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. on June 11, authorities said.

HEWLETT- A 2004 Hyundai was scratched and had its mirror broken at Westervelt Place between 6 p.m. on June 12 and 6 p.m. on June 13, officials said.

Petit larceny

INWOOD- A set of headphones was stolen from a vehicle on Robert Road between 8:45 p.m. on June 10 and 7:48 a.m. on June 11, police said. No damage was reported to the vehicle.

HEWLETT- An unspecified amount of money was taken from a wallet locked in a locker at an exercise gym at Hewlett Plaza between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on June 14, officials said.
